    Give This Book to Every Child You Love

    Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) wrote a poem of praise variously titled "The Canticle of the Creatures", "The Canticle of the Sun", or "Praise Song of the Creatures". Newbery and National Book Award winning author Katherine Paterson reimagines this poem in simple but profound words. The illustrations by Pamela Dalton are each cut out a single piece of paper and then painted with watercolors. These intricate papercuts evoke early Pennsylvania German rural life. Seldom is there such a superlative melding of religious praise and beautiful artwork in a children's book.
